(@limestonegenre on Twitter)<\/p>\n<p>The first iteration happened last year, as a one-day event. This year, the organizers doubled down, making it a two-day event.<\/p>\n<p>I hunkered down in the Dealers&#8217; Room for most of the event, so I can&#8217;t say that I caught all the panel action, but here&#8217;s what the schedule had to offer:<\/p>\n<p>Packed rooms of enthusiastic attendees listened and participated in topics from &#8220;Queering the Fantastic&#8221; to the Evolution of the Young Adult Market to &#8220;The Feminist Journey in Genre Fiction&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfeditor.ca\/about.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robert Runte<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/fiveriverspublishing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Five Rivers Publishing<\/a> generously offered an hour for authors to pitch their works &#8212; a highlight of the event for many.<\/p>\n<p>Readings were scheduled on both days, featuring Guests of Honour <a href=\"http:\/\/davidnickle.blogspot.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Nickle<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/vickidelany.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vicki Delany<\/a>, as well as authors <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nancybaker.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nancy Baker<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robbrunet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rob Brunet<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/alyssa-cooper-author-publisher.myshopify.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alyssa Cooper<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitdaven.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kit Daven<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.janetkellough.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Janet Kellough<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tara-wyatt.com\/about.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tara Wyatt<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mariebilodeau.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marie Bilodeau<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The following workshops offered varied seminars on the craft of writing:<\/p>\n<p>Guest of Honour <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ninamunteanu.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nina Munteanu<\/a> taught <i>The Ecology of World Building<\/i><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dereknewmanstille.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Derek Newman-Stille<\/a> taught <i>Writing the Senses<\/i><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.robbrunet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rob Brunet<\/a> taught <i>Setting as Character<\/i><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/marysullivanbooks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mary Sullivan<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annlethbridge.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ann Lethbridge<\/a> taught <i>How to Write Romance Novels and Find Your Market<\/i><\/p>\n<p>I intend to keep this convention on my radar from now on, especially considering my newly-formed Kingston connection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On July 23rd and 24th, I visited the beautiful city of Kingston, Ontario for Limestone Genre Expo.
